I have stumbled across a pristine 1985 C4 for sale. Its automatic with Z51 and cold A/C

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

It has both tops and every option, and is under 4 grand.

Who has daily driven a C4?

At that price you have to seriously check it out. you know theyre going to appreciate sooner rather than later. hell, even the late C3’s are going up. If that malaise turd can appreciate everything can.

Theres a reason they can be had so cheap. They typically aren’t very good especially the older ones. They can be made nice but are somewhat more complicated/expensive than your average Camaro.

I haven’t daily driven one but I have driven a few at the dealership I formerly worked at and was simply never impressed by any of the C4s they had come through.

Also, I found this on my local CL. Same car?

Also I found this and its much more tempting...

If all else fails you can sell the wheels on VW vortex for half the price of the car.

(is that still a thing?)

NP. Great project/race/autox car. While I didn’t own a C4 I did DD one a bit (was an 84). This was in the early 90s, it had all the features you needed to actually drive (windshield wipers that work, etc). And the car felt like it just had endless grip. Love those clamshell hoods too.

How many miles are on it? For that price, it looks pretty solid. Don’t listen to the hate anywhere; they’re great cars. If have any questions, feel free to ask.

Damn! How’d you come across a deal like that? If I were you, I would take advantage of that. Make sure to check the weatherstripping, door panels, dash, and basically the whole interior, since repairs there can get costly quickly (though, it looks pretty solid from the picture). Check as many of the fluids as you can to see their condition. Look around at the frame directly behind the driver-side wheel. This is under the battery tray, and if a C4 rusts, it will usually be right here. Not to mention, make sure its a Z51 if they say it is (this can be found on the service parts identification tag, which is in the compartment behind the driver’s seat). In addition, do your usual checks as you would with any cars. If the vast majority of those are all good, you should be all set! Good luck!

EDIT: Here’s a list with some more stuff to look for, if you want. http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c4-gene…

I wouldn’t do it... First the automatic... 4 speeds with 230hp... Meh.

Then you can buy a Manual LT1 for a couple extra grands. I have DDed one under the sun, in the rain, in the snow and on the ice and definitly don’t regret it

(Article here: http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/living-with-a-… )

So, save for a 1992 to 1996 instead, with a Zf6 6speed transmission... It’s something else really!
